Massage Business Challenges and how they become Rewards! PART 1 – By Vanessa Ragains – By Vanessa Ragains

On March 10, 2015, I celebrated 2 full years of being completely reliant of my creation: Be Mobile Wellness. As exciting as this was, I couldn’t help but reflect on the past two years; the challenges and the rewards that come with being an entrepreneur.

Challenge #1 Working Long Hours: Deciding to ditch the regular Spa day job was terrifying, to say the least. I wanted this opportunity so bad and had so many wonderful ideas to keep pursuing my dream! Now everything, and I mean everything from making money, marketing, scheduling, and everything in between was MY responsibility. It was a bit hectic at first. I called upon a dear friend of mine to delegate tasks to when I was feeling the pressure of it all. I gave her an amount of hours each week. This was incredibly helpful during my first year.

Reward #1 Learning Time Management: This is one of the more challenging facts of working for yourself. I searched the web for articles, “How-to” videos in order to learn from successful entrepreneurs. This research led me to some awesome tools that can schedule your posts ahead of time, schedule emails ahead of time, and all sorts of apps I could use to my advantage. How come I never knew about these? This made Working Long Hours less and being able to concentrate on growing my business.

Challenge #2 Hiring for Corporate Massage: My business has a few different sections: 1) Corporate Massage 2) Private Sessions 3) Classes (Yoga, SUP, Workshops) So juggling this as Be Mobile Wellness grows was becoming challenging. In this situation I decided it was time to hire a Massage therapist! This was exciting and scary because on one hand, I need HELP, but how would I find a therapist who is passionate, punctual, excellent customer service, and talented with bodywork? I placed an ad on Facebook and to my surprise, a therapist reached out to me who I worked with at a location in Daly City. It has worked out very nicely!

Reward #2 Learning to Create Boundaries: When you hire someone to represent your business, it is important to take some time to figure out what you expect from them. NOTE: Do not expect (your hire) to do anything more then what you do yourself! I wrote a list of policies that I put in place during the interview/practical. This provided both the new hire and myself with a blueprint of what is expected when working for Be Mobile Wellness.

My health and overall feeling of well-being has improved ever since I started taking these classes. I couldn’t ask for a better Yoga instructor. Keep up the good work, it is greatly appreciated!
